April Showers Umbrellas

April is time for showers and not just rain showers. It's time for bridal showers, baby showers as well as tea parties. I was thinking of that when I created these paper umbrella centerpieces.

Here is how - For the large Umbrella start with two 12 x 3-3/4" pieces of Designer Paper -
Run through the Big Shot with the Designer Rosetta Die.

Fold on creases accordion style.

Match up ends. They should match mountain to valley.

Glue together with a strong adhesive. I recommend Stampin' Up!
Crystal Effects. Just a little bit will set in 30 seconds and hold securely.
Glue open ends together to form a tube.

Using the Big shot Cut large scallop circle with coordinating card stock.
Make a cut from the edge to the center.

Making a cone shape overlap 4 scallops and glue. Again with
Crystal Effects.

Add glue to the inside of the scalloped cone and attach the Rosette
making sure Rosette is centered. Creating a cone shape with the Rosette.

Using the Scallop Circle Die.
Cut scallop then run through the Big Shot with texture plate.
 I love texture plates!

Cut from the edge to the center, overlap 3 scallops and Glue.

Add Dimensionals to the inside of this cone,

Attach to top of umbrella.

A candy cane works perfect for this - Luckily I had one.
I decided the easiest way to cover it would be with coordinating lace.
If you have an all white candy cane - even better!

I attached Sticky Strip to the ribbon.

Use a small piece of lace wrap over the end of the candy cane, then wrap the
entire candy cane overlapping the lace to cover the stripes on the candy cane.
I found it easier to only take a couple of inches of the sticky strip backing
off at a time to avoid it sticking together.

Here it is completely wrapped.

I added Crystal Effects to the hole in the underside of the umbrella.
 Hot glue would work here.

I then stuffed the end of the candy cane into the hole and let dry.

I added some pearls to the top.

Here is the close up of the detail.
I added a ribbon to the handle. Then I made small ones with mini candy canes.
Perfect for place setting/party favors.

  3. Holly,

These are so adorable and so timely. I am having a bridal luncheon Saturday and today I am making a few of these. Could you share the DSP dimensions for the smaller umbrella? Thanks so much and blessings, Diane

  4. Hi Diane,
Thank you so much. I had fun making them.

I used a 12" X 2" + an additional 2" strip of DSP for the umbrella and the Circle Scallops Die #2 which has both sizes I used (approx 3-1/2 and 2").
